    DNS provider guide

GoDaddy: add the client portal records

How to publish the two DNS records for your client portal address at GoDaddy. Each record below is written the way GoDaddy asks for it.

    Before you start

Name servers at GoDaddy usually look like ns01.domaincontrol.com. If yours look different, your DNS is run elsewhere: see how to find your DNS host in the full guide.

    • You can add records in your GoDaddy account only while the domain uses GoDaddy name servers. If it uses other name servers, add the records where those name servers are managed.

Where GoDaddy shows the name servers

Domain Portfolio, your domain, DNS, then Nameservers shows the name servers in use.

    Fill in your own values

Enter the address you added in Atlas, and paste the TXT value Atlas shows for it. Every record on this page and on the provider guides then shows your exact values. What you enter stays in this browser.

For example portal.yourfirm.com, without https:// in front of it.

Copy it from the card of your address in Atlas. It starts with atlas-portal-verification=

Your domain is read as yourfirm.com. If your DNS provider shows a different domain at the end of the name field, enter only the part of the name before that domain.

    • GoDaddy allows dots inside Name but not at the start or the end, so _atlas-portal.portal and portal are both accepted.

    Type
    CNAME

    Things to watch at GoDaddy

    • When you add more than one record before saving, the button reads Save All Records.
    • Delete any existing record with the same name as your portal address before adding the CNAME record.
    • A domain with Domain Protection asks for an identity code before the records are saved: the code sent by SMS or shown in your authenticator app, or a one-time password sent to the email address on the account.

    Check that it worked

Go back to Atlas and choose Check now on the card of your address, or ask DNS yourself:

    bash
    dig +short TXT _atlas-portal.portal.yourfirm.com
    dig +short CNAME portal.yourfirm.com

    nslookup -type=TXT _atlas-portal.portal.yourfirm.com
    nslookup -type=CNAME portal.yourfirm.com

GoDaddy says most DNS changes take effect within an hour, and can take up to 48 hours. The Propagation column on the DNS page shows how far each record has spread.
