    DNS provider guide

Namecheap: add the client portal records

How to publish the two DNS records for your client portal address at Namecheap. Each record below is written the way Namecheap asks for it.

    Before you start

Name servers at Namecheap usually look like dns1.registrar-servers.com. If yours look different, your DNS is run elsewhere: see how to find your DNS host in the full guide.

    • Host records can be edited only while the domain uses Namecheap BasicDNS, PremiumDNS or FreeDNS. With Namecheap Web Hosting DNS, add the records in cPanel instead. With custom name servers, add them where those name servers are managed.
    • Switching name servers does not carry host records across, so add the records after any switch.

Where Namecheap shows the name servers

Domain List, Manage, then the Nameservers section shows which DNS the domain uses.

    Fill in your own values

Enter the address you added in Atlas, and paste the TXT value Atlas shows for it. Every record on this page and on the provider guides then shows your exact values. What you enter stays in this browser.

For example portal.yourfirm.com, without https:// in front of it.

Copy it from the card of your address in Atlas. It starts with atlas-portal-verification=

Your domain is read as yourfirm.com. If your DNS provider shows a different domain at the end of the name field, enter only the part of the name before that domain.

    Open the DNS editor

Sign in at Namecheap, then follow this path:

    1. Domain List
    2. Manage (next to your domain)
    3. Advanced DNS

    Add the TXT record

    1. 1

      Choose Add New Record.

    2. 2

In Type (TXT Record), choose TXT.

    3. 3

In Host, enter the name shown in the record below.

    4. 4

In Value, enter the value shown in the record below.

    5. 5

      Time to live

TTL: Leave the TTL as it is.

    6. 6

Choose Save All Changes to save the record.

    • Namecheap adds your domain to every name automatically. Typing the domain as well produces a name with the domain in it twice.

    TXT
    Host
    _atlas-portal.portal

    • The value must be a full domain name, which portal.wrxstack.com is.

    Type (CNAME Record)
    CNAME
    Host

    Things to watch at Namecheap

    • A CNAME record blocks every other record for the same Host. Remove any A, URL Redirect, ALIAS or CNAME record on your portal name first.

    Check that it worked

Go back to Atlas and choose Check now on the card of your address, or ask DNS yourself:

    bash
    dig +short TXT _atlas-portal.portal.yourfirm.com
    dig +short CNAME portal.yourfirm.com

    nslookup -type=TXT _atlas-portal.portal.yourfirm.com
    nslookup -type=CNAME portal.yourfirm.com

Namecheap suggests waiting about 30 minutes for new host records.
