Release template
A release readiness checklist for a planned release on a regular cadence: scope agreed, tested, documented, monitored, and shipped with a rollback plan.
Overview
A release is ready when a short list of facts is true, not when someone feels confident. Writing those facts down as a checklist, and refusing to ship until the required ones are done, removes the guesswork from the release meeting.
This template is the built-in Standard release template in Atlas. It creates a minor release named Release followed by its version, bumps the minor version from the latest released one, sets the target fourteen days after the start, and plans deployments to Development, Staging, and Production.
Because the checklist lives on the release itself, a required check that is not done blocks the move to Released, alongside open tasks in the scope and pending sign-offs. A workspace owner or administrator can release past those blockers only by recording a reason.
What is included
Scope agreed and frozen, regression tests passed, release notes drafted, rollback plan written and tested, and dashboards and alerts ready for launch, all required. The sixth check, stakeholders told the date and the changes, is optional.
Planned deployments to Development, Staging, and Production, so the release shows where it has been deployed and where it is still to go.
A minor version bump from the latest released version and a target date fourteen days after the start date, both editable in the wizard.
Headings for Highlights, New features, Improvements, Fixes, and Known issues, ready for notes drafted from the finished tasks in the scope.
Required checks count toward readiness, so the release cannot be moved to Released while one is open unless an owner or administrator records an override reason.
How to use it
Use the template button on this page, or start a release at /releases/new and choose Standard release.
Edit the name, version, dates, and checklist in the wizard. Add a check your team always runs, or remove one that does not apply.
Add the tasks that make up the release, then request sign-off from the people who must approve it.
Tick each check as it becomes true, record each deployment, and move the release to Released once nothing blocks it.
