Release template
A regulated release plan for a release under audit: change approval by the change board, stored test evidence, segregation of duties, a risk assessment, and a reviewed audit trail.
Overview
A release in a regulated environment has to prove what it did, not only do it. An auditor asks who approved the change, what evidence shows it was tested, and whether the person who wrote it also approved it.
This template is the built-in Regulated release template in Atlas. It creates a minor release named Release followed by its version, bumps the minor version from the latest released one, sets the target twenty-one days after the start, and plans deployments to Development, Staging, and Production.
The release keeps its own record: every status change, check, sign-off, and deployment is written to its activity history, and sign-off requests record who approved or rejected the release and when.
What is included
Change approved by the change board, test evidence collected and stored, author and approver are different people, risk assessment completed, and audit trail reviewed before release.
The target date is set twenty-one days after the start, room for a change board meeting and evidence collection.
Planned deployments to Development, Staging, and Production.
Headings for Summary, Changes, Risk and controls, and Evidence, the sections a reviewer reads first.
When an owner or administrator releases past a blocker, the reason they give is recorded on the release.
How to use it
Use the template button on this page, or start a release at /releases/new and choose Regulated release.
Ask the change board members to sign off, and keep the author of the change out of the approvers.
Store the test evidence where your auditors expect it as the work completes, then tick the evidence check.
Read the activity history of the release before shipping, tick the audit trail check, and move the release to Released.
